Second phase of Rooppur nuclear power plant gets construction license

Online Desk: Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) has granted a license to Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) for construction of Unit No- 2 of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, following the Russian design. The license confirms the safety of the design for construction as well, said a press release of the ASE (Atomstroyexport) Engineering, a Russian general contractor of the Rooppur nuclear power plant (RNPP) project.

It mentioned that the license was formally handed over at a ceremony on July 8 at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in the city. “ASE (Atomstroyexport) Engineering Company as the General Contractor performs all obligations related to the construction of the Rooppur NPP. “Currently, the construction of the first power unit is underway, and we are taking necessary preparation for the pouring of first concrete into the slab of reactor compartment of power unit- 2”, said Valery Limarenko, Head of the Engineering Division of Rosatom State Corporation.

Rosatom, the Russian state nuclear agency, has been the main contractor of the RNPP project while ASE is its subsidiary body responsible for engineering and reactor supply of 2400 MW power project. Construction of Rooppur NPP unit 1 started in November 2017.
